iSCSI host bus adapters for System i5 platform
Internet SCSI (iSCSI) is a networking standard for attachment of systems to storage using industry-standard networking protocols and equipment. iSCSI commands are sent across a network in TCP/IP packets.
iSCSI host bus adapters (HBA) for the System i5 models take advantage of industry-standard technology to connect one or more diskless System x or blade servers to System i5 models via 1Gbps Ethernet switches and cables. Each System x or blade server must also have a supported IBM iSCSI HBA, purchased as an option for the System x or blade server, to initiate requests to a System i5.
You can install System i5 iSCSI features in POWER5 or advanced POWER5 System i5 models (520, 550, 570, or 595) or attached I/O towers. Each iSCSI HBA can support attachment of multiple System x or blade servers, up to a maximum of eight per iSCSI HBA. You can install multiple iSCSI HBAs in a single System i5 model. The iSCSI adapter is a smart IOA that does not require an IOP and uses only one PCI slot.
System i5 iSCSI HBAs can coexist with Integrated xSeries Servers and System x models attached to System i5 models via Integrated xSeries Adapters on i5/OS V5R4.
Collaboration Edition for model 520
#7691 Collaboration Edition for the System i5 520 supports i5/OS, Lotus Domino, Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing (Sametime), Lotus Team Workplace (QuickPlace), Domino Web Access, and other Lotus solutions. 5250 OLTP applications WebFaced using the WebFacing tool of WebSphere Development Studio can be run with no 5250 cpw requirement.
The 520 Collaboration Edition configuration shipped from IBM must include a minimum of 4GB of memory and four disk drives. If this configuration is not ideal for your solution, you may consider alternative configurations with other edition offerings or discuss options with your IBM sales representative or Business Partner.
This 1-way 520 can be converted from #7691 to a 1-way #7784 Standard Edition and then upgraded to a 1/2-way 520 #7785 Standard Edition.
